Jersey Match Library ›

Are jersey matches worth more?

Usually, yes. A jersey match is the one copy of a parallel tied to the player's number, and collectors who chase them will pay more than for an ordinary copy. But the premium is not a fixed multiple: it depends on the player, the product, the print run and how many people are chasing that player.

What drives the premium

  • The player. Jersey matches of heavily collected players (Michael Jordan, Victor Wembanyama, Shohei Ohtani) draw the most competition.
  • Print run. A match on a /10 parallel is scarcer than one on a /299, and the parallel itself is worth more.
  • Last copy. When the number equals the print run (a last-copy jersey match like 23/23), the card is both the match and the last one made.
  • Licensed and flagship. Licensed cards from flagship products (Prizm, Topps Chrome, National Treasures) carry more demand than unlicensed or minor brands.
  • Rookie year and autographs. The same multipliers that move any card move jersey matches too.
  • Condition and grading. A graded jersey match removes doubt about condition and authenticity.

How to judge a price

Start from what ordinary copies of the same parallel sell for, then decide what the match is worth to you on top. Compare several listings: on each player's page, Jersey Match Library shows every jersey match for sale with the cheapest first, so you can see the range at a glance. For auctions, the ending today list shows where the bidding stands.

Be careful with listings that call a card a "jersey match" when the serial doesn't match the number the player wore that season. The rules are in what is a jersey match.
